Purl Ridge Scarf

For weeks I've pondered this cowl craze. I've looked at patterns and the book Cowlgirls and thought that isn't for me. Maybe my nieces would like to have one but me not so much. Then I saw Kim's Eternity scarf at the knit-in. She also recommended Stephen West's Purl Ridge Scarf. I went home, got some Noro Silk Garden out of the stash and cast on.

Specs:

Pattern: Purl Ridge Scarf by Stephen West of Westknits
Yarn: Noro Silk Garden 8 (discontinued)
Needles: 8 US Clover Bamboo circs
Started: January 24, 2011 Finished: January 25, 2011

I didn't make any mods. I wore this to work Friday around the neck as the temp was in the 20's and later as a scarf. Loved it! I'm going to teach one of my co-workers to knit so that she can make one for herself. This is the perfect stash busting quick knit.

In other knitterly news, I'm morning the demise of my favorite pair of socks. I took them off the other night only to discover holes in both heels.

I made these years ago. They are the Broadripple socks from Knitty. This particular pair of socks got a lot of wear because at one time they coordinated with a lot of the colors I was wearing. I'm not a fan of the look of darning so I may just toss them in the trash. Alas, they served me well.

Nice scarf and colors. I need to fish out some yarn and make it.

Broadripple was one of the first sock patterns I knitted so it's a special one. One of mine has holes in it, but I don't wish to get rid of it just yet.

I have a bag of damaged socks. Surely something good can come of them. Sometimes I repair them (hubby jokes about my hobby --"Home Sock Repair Enthusiast").

Beautiful scarf/cowl! I imagine you can wind it over your head as well.

The socks, they lived a good life, they served you well. I know your pain when the day to the trash can comes.......

I LOVE your new neck warmer scarf. Fantastic colors.
Glad to hear it was an easy knit. Maybe I'll try it

Your model is simply beautiful. Pretty scarf/cowl, too!

You can cut off the leg portion, and pick up the stitches and knit a whole new foot in a complimentary color? The legs never get any wear at all, and are like new, so it won't look odd to have the old leg and the new foot. I HATE to throw out hand knitting, it's like a sin or something.

I love your knitting.
